It is a truly challenging task to present a story of an organizational transformation within half an hour. To do it in an insightful and interesting way, with an appropriate emphasis on all the key elements of such process seems like a mission impossible. And yet Marcin Kleina managed to do it successfully when he presented the story of Wolters Kluwer Poland. Not only did he managed to outline the essence of this impressive transformation from a traditional book publisher to a provider of digitally based solutions and services, but also discussed the main factors that contributed to the transformation at all levels of the organization. At strategic level, he’s pointed out the role of the PMO and Project Committee as silos breaker in the matrix structure. At portfolio level, he’s confirmed the importance of all components of a PPM system: PPM: People, Processes, and Tools. At program level, he’s proven that effective governing role is one of the key success factors. Finally, at project level, he’s pinpointed how essential was the evolution to Lean and Agile approaches as well as focusing on new product development and R&D projects. Learning about this success story was a very enlightening experience.
